What are your ideas/ comments?
This is a new blog which I have started to allow older men to discuss problems they have found with the psychological changes of retirement; different roles, loss of status, finances, family, housing.
I have had lots of problems which I had never expected and which have increased over the years.
High achievement at work; lost
High status at work/sport ; lost
Planning for retirement; totally different
It started with a financial advisor completely messing up my pension and losing me £250,000
This was unregulated and so would have been very difficult to obtain any compensation
This worry then affected my functioning at work and sport as well as family relationships
It ended my career and then my marriage, my savings, my business and my sport ( I was a national level athlete)
psychology and medication didn't help
I got worse
I then experimented with a website to throw away bad thoughts ( Dr James Pennebaker), but the police got a hack into the website I had visited and I was accused of serious crime
